There are many events running annually at Gordon. PAC helps to run many of them. Ongoing Events during the School YearGrocery Card Fundraiser - PAC buys cash cards from many stores at a discount of 2% to 10%. PAC sells the cards at face value. The difference goes into PAC funds. Order forms usually due on the last Friday of the month. PAC Meetings - Alternate last Monday or Tuesday of each month, except December and June. Held in the evening in the library. Babysitting by Grade 7 students. Dates for the year are posted on the PAC meeting page of this website. Popcorn Sales - Every Friday lunchtime in the basement. Clothes Donations - At the end of each term, unclaimed lost-and-found clothes are donated to charity. Recycling - ongoing. Drink containers - plastic, glass and metal bottles and cans - are collected for recycling by Go Green. The recycling center is in the basement. One-Time Events in the School YearWelcome BarBQ and Meet the Teachers - An afternoon and evening BarBQ in September at the beginning of the school year. Meet your child's teacher over a BarBQ dinner. Terry Fox Run - In September during school hours, the whole school participates in an annual run or walk. Direct Donation Campaign - The first half of October - One of PAC's two main fundraisers of the year. Parents are asked to donate, if they are able, towards school equipment and programs. Details of Direct Drive fund allocation are on the PAC budget page of this website. Book Fair - Held during the parent/teacher conferences in October. There are no parent-teacher conferences this year, so there will be no bookfair. We hope to have another book event to fundraise for the library in the spring. Halloween Parade - On or near Halloween, students and teachers come to school in their Halloween costumes and parade through the school at the beginning of the day. Winter Fair and Concert - In early December in the evening - Students perform in a winter concert organized by the music teacher. Students can make their own crafts and sell them at the winter fair. PAC sells snacks and drinks. Santa's Workshop - Some years, French Immersion parents collect small gifts for students to buy and have gift-wrapped for their families, as a fundraiser for French Immersion Cultural Field Trips. Holiday Donations - In December, PAC collects food and gifts for families in need. Jump Rope for Heart - Around Valentine's Day, staff organizes a jump rope marathon with students, and raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Talent Show - In the Spring, students audition with their talent, and put on an evening performance for parents. French Immersion Fundraising Events - French Immersion parents organize fundraising events at various times during the year to raise money for French Immersion Cultural Field Trips. Spring Fling - In May Gordon parents and staff organize a school and community fair outside on the school grounds. Lots of events, music, food and fun. This is the second of the two main PAC fundraisers of the year. Sports Day - Mid-May usually before the long weekend - A school day entirely devoted to sports. Students participate in activities run by Kits High students. Kindergarten Orientation and Tea - Usually in June - A morning gathering to introduce new kindergarten families to Gordon. Teacher Appreciation Lunch - Usually in June - Parents prepare a lunch for teachers, in thanks for their work for the students. Beach Day -Late June - At the end of the school year, the whole school walks to Jericho Beach for a day on the sand. |
