Parent Information Evening on Tuesday, May 17 at Magee Secondary from 7-8pm. Please come if you are interested in participating in an interactive presentation on the new curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 9 and the proposed curriculum for the Graduation Years (Gr. 10-12). If you are interested in participating please contact Ms. Davidson at mdavidson@vsb.bc.ca by May 9, 2016, as there is a limit of 3 parents per school. Please bring your own laptops or iPads for team members.


UBC is extending its current after school clubs program into the spring and early summer, and would love for more students to join us! The spring program will have 5 sessions spanning the weeks of May 7th to June 4th. It will happen every Saturday from 10am to 12pm on UBC campus. We have a variety of sessions available to all age groups and even computer science specific sessions. The goal of the clubs program, as with our regular summer camps program, is to get students excited about the fields of STEM through an interactive and hands on manner. There are many tax receipts still in the Main office. Make sure you pick yours up before you do your taxes by the end of April!


We are collecting donations of grocery cards to support a Syrian refugee family that have just moved into our catchment (near Stephens and 3rd, in the basement suite of the house of past Gordon students). There was not space for them at Gordon Elementary, but we would like to help them through their difficult transition time as they settle in.
Sheila has some Safeway cards that you can get from her anytime sheilakirkby@gmail.com, or you can buy local grocery cards directly and pass them to Ingrid for delivery isulston@gmail.com. Or contact Ingrid if you would like to take it to them. Safeway, No Frills or IGA cards are suggested as they are local and relatively cheap, but any cards are welcome.


Do you have a 3, 4 or 5 year old pre-schooler? If so come and join us in the QEA gym for our Ready, Set, Learn Event. The event will be on Wednesday, May 11th from 14:00-15:00 in our gym. Thank you Ms. Rassias for organizing the event!


The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at the Vancouver School Board. As such, we practice safety drills throughout the year to help our students, parents and staff know what to do in an emergency.

On Thursday, May 5, 2015 the VSB will be conducting its annual district wide Big One @ 2 emergency drill. As a part of this year’s drill, ONLY QEA and Gordon at QEA will be conducting a full student release. Not at the main school site.

Please make arrangements to have your child(ren) picked up at 14:15 on May 5th and practice the procedures with us.

**Students will only be released to parents and/or alternates listed on the emergency information forms you provided to the school. These are the ONLY people who will be allowed to sign for the release of a student in an emergency situation (and on the day of the drill).

Please be sure that this information is current and accurate. Alternates should live within walking distance of the school as transportation disruption is a possibility if a real emergency occurs.

On May 5th students will be released from the designated evacuation area at the school. Parents or alternates will be expected to:

  1. Locate and report to their child’s class on the gravel field
  2. Sign for the release of their child into their care
  3. Return their child’s name tag to the adult in charge of the class

Please be prepared to show identification, as this may be necessary to confirm your identity if you are not known to school staff.

Runners from both QEA and Gordon at the Annex have been busy running on Mondays and Wednesdays. Do you want to take your running skills further? Join our team for the 2016 Child Run. Our coaches have registered us for a team called “QEA and General Gordon” Below is the info on how to sign up for the race and raise money for the Vancouver Children’s Hospital.

As the largest family fun run in Vancouver, RBC Run for the Kids (formerly ChildRun) inspires participants to raise funds for childhood cancer and mental health initiatives at BC Children's Hospital. On Sunday, June 5, 2016, the RBC Run for the Kids will host runners and walkers of all ages and abilities on a scenic 5km or 2km Fun Run route, followed by a carnival celebration.



Find out how you can get involved with RBC Run for the Kids by participating, volunteering or donating! Please note that online registration closes at 5:30pm on Saturday, June 4.  Participants will be able to register at the run.

Come and watch the fun at the Sports Day at the Annex on Wed. May 25th from 12:50-2:30pm. The kids will have an early lunch from 11:45 to 12:40pm and then the kids will run through the stations ending with the running races.


One of our Kindergarten students, Mari has been involved in collecting donations for Syrian refugees. She will visit the classes at QEA and explain why she decided to participate in the project. She has already donated 15 bags to the Immigrant Services Society of BC. Well done Mari! If you would like to donate please bring your donations to the Annex location. There is a box in the hall near the main office. Donations will be accepted until April 14.

Requested items are: Lipton Tea, Olive Oil, Sugar, Basmati Rice, small bottles of honey, Instant Coffee, Magi Cubs and Grocery store gift cards

Junior practices (Gr. 3-5) are at Tuesday at lunch time and Wednesday’s after school. Senior practices (Gr. 6-7) are Wed. after school and Thursday at lunch time. All are welcome to join, please come and see Mr. Patrick if you have not already signed up. Extra registrations forms are available in the office.

VSB Summer School – Summer School

Registration opens on May 2. Go to summer.vsb.bc.ca to find out more and book your child into some great programs.



If your child took the FSA test (Gr. 4 or Gr. 7’s) and you would like to see their results please send a message to either Ms. Davidson mdavidson@vsb.bc.ca or Heidi haleung@vsb.bc.ca authorizing us to release the booklet to your child.


Pizza will be sold in the lunch room on Fridays.  This is a fundraising effort for the Grade 7’s Quebec trip. They will sell until they run out - hopefully they will have enough pizza for everyone, but they don’t know how popular it will be, so please pack food with your child so no one goes hungry. There are no order forms, cash only. $3 one slice, $5 for two, plain cheese pizza and pepperoni.

Monday, April 25th from 7:00-8:30 pm. This is our last meeting of the year. All parents and guardians are welcome.

Please note that our next PAC meeting (everyone is welcome) is held at Bayview Elementary School Library from 7pm - 8.30pm on Monday 25th April. Some of the points on the agenda are an update from the VSB site manager on the construction status of our new school, the bike-a-thon amongst other school related items. We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible there

Spring Plant Sale Fundraiser

Please click on the link below if you would like to order some plants, all funds raised will be going towards our school playground. The order deadline is Friday May 13th, pick up is on May 27th at both school locations and during the May 29th Bike-A-Thon event.
