Child Run: the run practices have started in the morning and thank you to all the helpers! Don’t forget to bring to return your child’s form if he/she is participating in the run. Also remember that you must drop your child at school at 8:30 on Wednesdays and Fridays if your child is participating as the bus arrives at 8:50. On the Sunday of the run, please accompany your child to the event. Come and join us for the practices if you are free!

All students at the Annex will be invited to participate in Jump Rope for Heart this year; stay tuned for more details and pledge forms will be sent home shortly.
As there will not be primary Track meets organised in our zone this year, our teachers have decided to run Track activities as part of their PE lessons for the month of May to give all students a chance of doing -some Track before going to intermediate school.

Sports Day at the Annex: June 5th 12:30-15:00

Teachers of both QEA and Gordon are busy planning a fun Sports Day for our students on June 5th. Please come and join us for some active fun, and hopefully lots of sun. The Sports Day will be rain or shine so please dress your child appropriately.

Big One at Two: earthquake preparedness

We sent a notice home last week regarding our quake practice day on May 7th. All families must practice for such an event and we will have a full release on May 7th. Students will evacuate the school at 14:00 with their teachers. Teachers and adults in charge will conduct attendance and release procedures. Please meet your child on the gravel field at 14:15 and sign him/her out with the classroom teacher. This is exactly how we would proceed in the event of a major disaster. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

A District wide event for parents (grades 6 – 12) on April 14 hosted by Van Tech and conducted in partnership with SACY. Happening on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Vancouver Technical Secondary School Auditorium, 2600 E. Broadway

Goal: to support Vancouver parents and caregivers in learning about the impacts on our students of the rapidly changing context of cannabis in Vancouver including:

  • the rapid increase in "medical" dispensaries,
  • the April 20th annual 420 event – a large cannabis event in Vancouver School Board
  • the dearth of public health messaging about cannabis.

Adults are often uncertain about ways to dialogue with youth about cannabis and about the potential harms or risks of marijuana use (especially regular, sustained use) to school-aged youth. We look forward for you to come and join us for this free event. For more information please contact: ajwilson@vsb.bc.ca
