If you have a child in Grade 5 and are interested in a Late Immersion Program, General Gordon will be hosting an information meeting on Wednesday, January 14 from 7:00-8:00pm in the auditorium at Queen Elizabeth School. This is a great learning opportunity that promises intellectual challenge and fun learning a new language. For more information you can visit the following website www.vsb.bc.ca. You can also get the application online by going to the following website: https://www.vsb.bc.ca/sites/default/files/Gr1-7-Application2013.pdf.
Registration will start in November and go until the end of January. It is not a first come, first serve basis but all registrations will be collected along with a written letter by the student which includes their reasons for wanting to participate in a Late Immersion program. A copy of their first grade 5 report card can be sent to the school after December. At General Gordon we have 60 spaces for Grade 6 students. If we have more applications there will be a draw in the beginning of February.
NOTE: The Late French Immersion program at Gordon will be situated at the portables at the Queen Elizabeth site at 4102 West 16th Avenue.

Choice Program Orientation Evening – Come and learn all about these great district Programs: Early French Immersion, Mandarin Bilingual, Montessori, International Baccalaureate, Intensive French and Late French Immersion. Meeting will take place on Thursday, Nov. 27 from 7:00 – 9:00pm at Tupper Secondary Auditorium.

If your child is interested in a mini-school or choice program please go on the VSB website to see when all the dates of the information nights are. Your child will also have to write the Test of Cognitive Skills.
The Test of Cognitive Skills take place on Dec. 10th at 1:00 p.m. for VSB students and at 8:30 a.m. for Private school students. You must register to take the test.

Online Registration for the Cognitive and Skills Test will open Nov. 15. Deadline for registration for the test is Nov. 30. There are NO exceptions.

This link will be live on Nov. 15. IMPORTANT: Have your PEN number before you register. You may receive your child’s PEN number by emailing Heidi Leung at haleung@vsb.bc.ca or have your child come and ask Heidi for their PEN number.
Your test results are not given to any schools, parents or students. They are only used for the purpose of entering a District Program in Gr. 8 in Sept. 2015. They will not affect your entrance to a regular program at a Vancouver Secondary school. All Information Nights start at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

PAC NEWS-November 06, 2014

Friday, Nov. 14th, at the Bus Stop at 6th and Bayswater, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. The first coffee morning was a big success as parents enjoyed coffee, baked goods and chatting in the rain! Rain or shine, you’ll start your day off well ☺ Please try to bring your own mug. Also please note: we are focussing on the parent community, and will not be able to provide goodies for the students. Please feed them breakfast at home – thanks!

Our annual appeal continues until NOV 15th. Every little bit counts so please consider giving what you can towards PAC’s endeavours that enrich our children’s school experience. Donations can be made on the website, in person or by mail. Tax receipts issued for donations above $20. For more info, visit www.gordonelementary.ca
